Genesis 6:22-

“Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord” (part 2)

INTRO: Last week, we left Noah, Shem, Ham and Japeth with a BIG project! 

        As we pick up with them, we see them doing what God told them to do!

        Noah was a man of Faith. He did what he knew God expected him to do!

Hebrews 11:7 (NASB95) By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

        Let’s see what happened next!!!

Genesis 6:22 (NASB95)

     22   Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did.

1. What did Noah do?
2. He followed God’s plan!
3. He built the Ark to code… God’s code.
4. Height, width, length.
5. Three stories.
6. “Rooms” (cages)
7. Brought all kinds of edible food in.
8. For his family, and the animals

1. “The Plan!”

Genesis 7:1–24 (NASB95)

     1   Then the LORD said to Noah, “Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this time. 

     2   “You shall take with you of every clean animal by sevens, a male and his female; and of the animals that are not clean two, a male and his female; 

     3   also of the birds of the sky, by sevens, male and female, to keep offspring alive on the face of all the earth. 

     4   “For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will blot out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made.” 

     5   Noah did according to all that the LORD had commanded him. 

     6   Now Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of water came upon the earth. 

     7   Then Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him entered the ark because of the water of the flood. 

     8   Of clean animals and animals that are not clean and birds and everything that creeps on the ground, 

     9   there went into the ark to Noah by twos, male and female, as God had commanded Noah.

1. Enter the Ark!
2. At first thought, that isn’t such a big deal.
3. They’ve “entered the Ark” every day they worked on it.
4. But this isn’t just coming in to work…
5. This is moving in!
6. They are leaving their old life behind.
7. Now it’s getting real!
8. They always had the back up plan to turn the Ark into a “grand hotel!”
9. But now, it’s time to “put up or shut up!”
10. Noah says, “Joan of Ark, Make up your mind! Where you want the couch and the table!”
11. Japeth adds, “Be absolutely sure! We’ll be nailing them to the deck!”
12. Next, come the animals!
13. The first “animal parade” was in the garden when Adam was naming the animals.
14. Now we have a second parade.
15. God apparently sends the animals to Noah and family, not to name them, but to save them.
16. Noah takes two of every kind onto the Ark.
17. He also takes five extra of the “clean” female animals.
18. These will be used as sacrifices after the flood subsides.
19. These could possibly have also been eaten by carnivores, or perhaps even Noah and his family.
20. Adam and family will be told, after the flood, that they can now eat meat.

Genesis 9:3 (NASB95) “Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant.”

1. This seems to mean they couldn’t before.
2. Birds are also brought in by groups of seven.
3. I guess they would have had plenty of fresh eggs to eat on the Ark.
4. The animals brought in are of their “kind.”
5. We don’t need a pair of ponies, a pair of Arabian horses, a pair of Quarter horses, a pair of miniature horses, a pair of Zebras and a pair of each kind of draft horse. We just need a pair of the “equine kind” with a wide gene pool.
6. I’m pretty sure God could manage to get the right animals to the Ark!
7. The plan also involves waiting….     

Genesis 7:10 It came about after the seven days, that the water of the flood came upon the earth.

1. Noah and family move in, but the water of the flood doesn’t come for seven days.
2. Scripture doesn’t say how long it took to get the animals all aboard, but it may not have taken all seven days to get the job done.
3. Even with the animals all loaded, I’m sure there was plenty of “last minute” prep to do.

Genesis 7:16 Those that entered, male and female of all flesh, entered as God had commanded him; and the LORD closed it behind him.

1. Noah and his family have 7 days to complete the task. When it was done, GOD shut the door of the Ark.
2. Noah didn’t close it, he can’t open it when people come looking, too late, for safety.
3. This is God’s Judgement, not Noah’s.

1. The Flood!

Genesis 7:11-24 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened. 

     12   The rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. 

     13   On the very same day Noah and Shem and Ham and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark, 

     14   they and every beast after its kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, all sorts of birds. 

     15   So they went into the ark to Noah, by twos of all flesh in which was the breath of life. 

     16   Those that entered, male and female of all flesh, entered as God had commanded him; and the LORD closed it behind him.

     17   Then the flood came upon the earth for forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. 

     18   The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 

     19   The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered. 

     20   The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered. 

     21   All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; 

     22   of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. 

     23   Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. 

     24   The water prevailed upon the earth one hundred and fifty days.

1. The flood wasn’t cute! It wasn’t funny!
2. No Giraffes with their heads sticking out.
3. No happy smiling animals on the deck.
4. There is a reason that the window is at the top of the Ark. Who would want to witness this?
5. Every land animal, every bird, every human, is wiped out!
6. Many of them are buried in layers of mud and sand, laid down by the water.
7. We dig them up as fossils today.
8. The flood “prevailed fifteen cubits” (around 25 feet) above the highest mountains then present.
9. How could this be possible?
10. Most of the mountains we know now, had not been formed yet.

RABBIT HOLE ALERT!

• The “Fountains of the deep” open up.
• Theory, but a good one… One single Continent: It is sitting on plates, with water underneath.
• The water shoots out of the ground, and like stepping on an ice cube, the continent begins breaking apart.
• This doesn’t happen over “millions of years.”
• “Continental drift” that we see today is residual movement from this huge move.
• As this is happening, molten magma is being released in huge quantities, all over.
• Over 1000 volcanoes in Arizona.
• Nearly 1000 in New Mexico
• More than 500 in California.
• More than 160 in Nevada
• No one has counted how many old volcanoes there are in the United States.
• As this all happens, the super hot water, shot into the sky will soon begin to come down as rain.
• All this movement causes earthquakes, the likes of which no one since has seen!
• What are now separate continents are moving on their plates. When they run into other plates, the mountains we know today are uplifted.
• The “floodgates of the sky” cut loose!
• The water vapor, already in the sky begins to come down as well.

Again, it is no wonder that the window faced up!

1. God brings the cataclysm to an end!

Genesis 8:1–5 (NASB95) But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the cattle that were with him in the ark; and God caused a wind to pass over the earth, and the water subsided. 

     2   Also the fountains of the deep and the floodgates of the sky were closed, and the rain from the sky was restrained; 

     3   and the water receded steadily from the earth, and at the end of one hundred and fifty days the water decreased. 

     4   In the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat. 

     5   The water decreased steadily until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains became visible. 

     6   Then it came about at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made; 

     7   and he sent out a raven, and it flew here and there until the water was dried up from the earth. 

     8   Then he sent out a dove from him, to see if the water was abated from the face of the land; 

     9   but the dove found no resting place for the sole of her foot, so she returned to him into the ark, for the water was on the surface of all the earth. Then he put out his hand and took her, and brought her into the ark to himself. 

     10   So he waited yet another seven days; and again he sent out the dove from the ark. 

     11   The dove came to him toward evening, and behold, in her beak was a freshly picked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the water was abated from the earth. 

     12   Then he waited yet another seven days, and sent out the dove; but she did not return to him again. 

     13   Now it came about in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first of the month, the water was dried up from the earth. Then Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and behold, the surface of the ground was dried up.

1. God stops the water works.
2. God stops the flow of water from down below.
3. God stops the rain from above.
4. The water recedes.
5. Where did it go?
6. When the continents move, the sea floor drops.
7. Land is uplifted.
8. The Ark comes to rest.
9. Where? In a mountain range that will be known as Ararat.
10. The Ararat Mt. Range is in Turkey, about 10 miles (16 km) west of the Iranian border.
11. The Mountains become visible.
12. The vapor in the air begins to subside?
13. The water recedes steadily.
14. Water is running off the continents, cutting the channels that we still see today where rivers still flow.
15. Finally, the water has run off the land, and the land is drying out.
16. God sent a wind to help with this process.
17. This all takes just over a year!
18. Imagine, being cooped up with 8 people, in a floating zoo, for a year!
19. How many games of Monopoly could you play?

This is where we’ll leave Noah, his family, and all the animals for now. But don’t worry, they’ll still be there next week.

What is there for us to learn from this terrible destructive act?

• God will not put up with evil forever!
• God does give LOTS of opportunity for people to repent!
• Most people won’t accept the chance God is giving them.

Matthew 24:37–39 (NASB95) “For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.

“For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,

and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be.

• God won’t wait forever this time either!
• The day will come when God’s patience has ended, and Jesus will return for His Church!
• We had better be ready!
• Ourselves
• Share with those folks we know.
• Help Missionaries share with folks we cannot personally reach!
• We had better be faithful!
• “Walk the walk.” Don’t just “talk the talk!”
