A New Year?!? What is so special about the New Year? I mean, it happens every year, right? We chant “Happy New Year!” in our celebrations with hope this upcoming year is better than the last. We sometimes anticipate the new year like it will bring cleansing to our crazy, busy, maybe unhealthy, or depressing lives. We say things like, “I can’t wait to start the new year!”, or “things will be so much better after the new year!”, or “I can take care of that in the new year.”
We try to resolve that with our (usually unmet) New Year’s Resolutions – like bad habit breaking, or getting better control of our bible studies, our daily worship, our church attendance, or our wandering spiritual walk. It can be exhausting, and we all know that we have little control over things and circumstances that happen in our lives during the year, or even day to day.
But there’s true hope:
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in Him.” Lamentations 3:22-24
As followers of Christ, we don’t have to wait for the new year! We can cast off all worries, all fears, all anxiety because of our hope in Jesus. And, as followers of Christ, we should be basking in the love of Jesus and say, “Happy New Day!” as part of our worship each day, every day. How great would it be if we could really give up control of everything, and let the One who is in control of everything do what He promised?
I encourage you to encourage me to do this. Memorize this verse. Study it. Read it. Live it and share it with others. Make it a part of your daily worship. Become more involved in the many worship opportunities we have here at Havasu Christian Church from worship services, Sunday School, small groups, craft time, Bible Studies, fellowship nights, game nights, worship nights, etc. You will not be sorry.
Then face this uncertain world daily with the “Happy New Day” attitude.
... peace and love … Billy
