Greetings, fellow worshippers ...
Have you ever had to wait? Traffic signals; Doctor’s appointments; MVD; Stores; the Pharmacies; Concerts and events. No matter what we do, where we go, or what we plan ... we gotta wait.
How about waiting on God? Have you ever been impatient waiting on God? His plans? His answer to prayer? Or just waiting on a clear sign from God on what to do next?
Waiting can feel like an emotional holding cell and can be quite effective at stealing our opportunities for worship, so here are a couple of examples from the Bible we can look at for encouragement:
- David. David spent 15 long years running and hiding before he ever wore his crown as king. He was sleeping on rocks, running from a king who wanted him dead, and he had every human 1reason to have a total meltdown. Then, while hiding and waiting inside a cave, David wrote Psalm 57, declaring, “My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises!”. David gave us a profound method for us to use – that worshiping through our waiting changes our perspective. If David could find joy and absolute reliance on God while sitting in a literal hole in the ground, we can find joy while waiting for our next chapter to unfold.
- Noah. Noah spent years in adversity obediently building an ark at God’s direction. Once it was finished, and the chosen were inside, the Bible tells us in Genesis 7:16 – “Then the Lord shut him in." God closed that door, absolutely nothing happened right away. The rain didn't start falling for seven whole days. The waiting must have been overwhelming. Noah couldn’t open the door himself, or see what was happening outside. Noah had to wait. Noah had to rely completely on God’s timing – showing us that when we feel stuck in a situation, we can trust that the same God who shuts the door is the one keeping us safe inside.

This song is a reminder of this beautiful – our waiting seasons are never wasting seasons. God uses these moments of waiting to build our reliance on Him, inviting us to trade our waiting and impatience for real worship.
I encourage you to encourage me to not let waiting and impatience steal any of our opportunities to worship God. God is always working behind the scenes and preparing our hearts to answer His call for whatever beautiful thing comes next.
